Stacking the Shelves (1)

"Stacking the Shelves" is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews where bloggers can share the latest books they've received and discover new titles while visiting other blogs.

Like many others I've decided to switch my weekly mailbox post to 'Stacking the Shelves'. I made this decision based on two important factors. The first is that I want to support my fellow Canadian bloggers in any way I can, and this is one good way of doing that. The other reason, of course, is the recent blogging drama with Kristi at The Story Siren. I must say that I believe in forgiveness and I don't think you should condemn people outright. I don't support bullying or talking bad about people, but I also believe in what's right.

The whole situation is a lot of drama that I so far have not commented on simply because I didn't feel it was my place. But what I do feel is my place is to explain that the plagiarism controversy is one reason why I have decided to no longer participate in 'In My Mailbox'. I believe in transparency and admitting your faults, and I don't believe Kristi did that. I don't think she's a bad person or that she isn't sorry, but I don't like the way the situation was handled at all. I could say a lot more, but again, I don't think it's my place.

All that being said, here's what I've received in the past two weeks:

Bought:

- Insurgent (Divergent #2) by Veronica Roth
- City of Lost Souls (Mortal Instruments #5) by Cassandra Clare
- Black Dawn (Morganville Vampires #12) by Rachel Caine
- Shine (Shade #3) by Jeri Smith-Ready [Confession: I actually bought 2 copies of this. When it was released on May 1 I was dying to read it so much and my copy hadn't come in the mail yet, so I bought the eBook as well and devoured it that evening. SO GOOD!! & so worth buying it twice, haha]

Won:

- Past Perfect by Leila Sales [It's been so long I can't remember who I won this from, but THANK YOU. Very exciting because I love this book like woah.]

For Review:

From Razorbill Canada:
- The Golden Lily (Bloodlines #2) by Richelle Mead
- Bitterblue (Graceling #3) by Kristin Cashore

eBooks:
- The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa (From Harlequin Teen on Netgalley)
- The 2012 Book Blogger's Cookbook compiled by Christy Dorrity (From Christy for blog tour)

    1. Agreed, there are not a lot of series that can keep interest so long, but Morganville definitely does!

  10. Oooh amazing books this week, Ashley! I can't wait until my copy of CoLS arrives...hopefully it'll come soon for me! haha And, I completely agree with you about the whole TSS plagiarism ordeal. That's my take on it, too. I'm not going to comment on it, but I don't really want to show support for her, nor do I want to support the people who were ganging up against her. *sigh* But, anyway, this is the mailbox meme I'm considering switching to, too. So, I'll have to do that next week I think. :)

  16. Hi,

Great books (and the cat is adorable!)

I loved Insurgent! Wish I didn't have to wait so long for the last one now.

Past Perfect was too cute for words. Seriously loved that book.

I've also been meaning to start the Graceling series for a long time...need to move that one to the top of my list.
