Synopsis: (from Goodreads)
I had a life anyone would kill for.

Then someone did.

The worst part of being dead is that there’s nothing left to live for. No more kisses. No more secrets. No more gossip. It’s enough to kill a girl all over again. But I’m about to get something no one else does—an encore performance, thanks to Emma, the long-lost twin sister I never even got to meet.

Now Emma’s desperate to know what happened to me. And the only way to figure it out is to be me—to slip into my old life and piece it all together. But can she laugh at inside jokes with my best friends? Convince my boyfriend she’s the girl he fell in love with? Pretend to be a happy, carefree daughter when she hugs my parents good night? And can she keep up the charade, even after she realizes my murderer is watching her every move?

From Sara Shepard, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Pretty Little Liars books, comes a riveting new series about secrets, lies, and killer consequences.

Let the lying game begin.

My Thoughts:
This book was a crazy, wild ride that kept me guessing until the end. The concept of it is so interesting, and I was totally drawn in, right from the beginning. The way the book is written is so unique, as Sutton is the first person narrator, yet you’re also privy to Emma’s thoughts and feelings from a third person standpoint. This might seem confusing, but after the first couple of chapters you begin to see how the book is written, and you get so wrapped up in the plot that it just seems right. Sara Shepard has created another amazing series with interesting characters, and plot lines which twist and turn. She has the ability to weave plots which seem crazy and just make them completely compelling.

I really enjoyed this book for its suspense, and for the character of Emma. I really felt the confusion she was feeling, and I cared about what happened to her right from the beginning. My only complaint is that because this is the start of a new series, the problems of the book don’t get resolved - they just set up the beginning of the next book, which I wanted to read straightaway after reading this one. If you liked “Pretty Little Liars” or if you just think this one sounds interesting I definitely wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

  2. Yeah Ashley! I just posted my review of this one today as well and felt much the same way as you. I kept thinking I knew what was going on and what was surely going to happen, but I kept being very wrong and I loved it! I hadn't read any Sara Shepard before this book, so I'm definitely going to have to go back and read PLL. Fabulous review!

  5. I agree that the point of view is very unique. I have read the Pretty Little Liars series and loved it. I think that The Lying Game is better. It is sometimes frustrating not knowing what is the truth, but that is part of the series' charm.
