My Thoughts:
‘Of Poseidon’ is a book that has a very interesting concept. I loved the mythological background and the idea of someone having abilities related to the sea and Poseidon without realizing it. However for some reason this one just didn’t click for me. I felt like the characters, the narration, and the plot progression were all a bit flat. It could be that things improved a lot from the ARC I read, but I found the book to be really choppy at some points, almost like parts of the book were missing.
Character-wise, Galen almost felt like two different characters. At the beginning he was stoic, awkward, and quiet, and then he suddenly transformed into someone incredibly flirty who knew human speech and customs. I also had a problem with the dual perspective narration. Emma’s POV was first person and Galen’s was third person, which made for a really awkward back and forth.
This book was interesting enough to keep me reading until the end, even though I figured out the “twists”, but it definitely wasn’t as good as I expected it to be, especially with all the positive reviews I had seen.

Aww, too bad the book didn't work so well for you, I had heard some cool things about this book, but I guess it takes all kinds :P

Awh, what a shame that you didn't love it! I hear so many great things about it, so I think it's a good thing to hear something more negative. It gives me a more realistic look :) Thanks for your honesty and I will keep this in mind when I'm reading it.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how different our opinions of books have been lately! I loved this and Monument 14 and you were only so-so on both... Oh well, we will always have Divergent, Clockwork Prince and CoLS... ;)
