This post is part of my week-long participation in Armchair BEA 2012.
Networking... In Real Life
Probably one of the coolest things that blogging has brought me is a connection with bloggers from my province, and the opportunity to find out about awesome bookish events. Here are some links to posts I've made about events I've been fortunate enough to attend:
- Word on the Street Toronto (2011)
- 1st Annual Ontario Blog Squad Meet Up
- Books 2 Eat (2012)
- Kelley Armstrong signing
- Rochester Teen Book Festival (2012)
The Ontario Blog Squad meet up is one of the coolest book/blogger events I've been to, and I was so happy to be a part of it. A huge group of bloggers got together and talked books, and we were also fortunate enough to get some crazy awesome goody bags with ARCs and swag. I will definitely do everything in my power to attend the 2012 meet up as well, because meeting all my blogger friends in real life was such a cool experience.
I've also met up with Avery a bunch of times because we live relatively close to one another. I don't even know exactly how we found each other's blogs, but we realized that we had gone to the same school and lived almost in the same city. We get together every month or so and trade books and swag and talk all kinds of bookish things. It's definitely fun to have blogging to thank for a real life friendship.
I'd love to do some more "real life networking". I want to branch out a bit and connect with a local high school to see if any teachers might want ARCs or extra books from my library. I'm definitely open to other opportunities as well, so I'm really excited to get some ideas from everyone else's posts today.
That looks delicious!!! I am so jealous! those are alot of events that I would love to go to.

I love meet-ups! So much fun! I've also been thinking of contacting my local high school library (or even the grammar school my son attends) to see if they would be interested in ARCs or YA/MG books I have but don't necessarily feel the need to keep forever.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to meet up with anyone but I have two wonderful people I will probably be meeting soon. I'm so excited! I hope you make it to the next Ontario Blog Squad meet up and I hope I can make it so I finally get to meet you :)
ReplyDeleteWe should meet up sometime this summer! I know we don't live *that* far apart. But either way I definitely hope to see you at the meet up. =)
DeleteMeets up sound like a ton of fun. I wonder how far people would be will to travel for one. Hummm....
ReplyDeleteI think it depends. I drove 2 hours, and I know another person came even further.
DeleteBlogger meet-ups are my favorite too. Definitely connect with your HS to see if they want ARCs, since they usually have a big need for anything they can get!
ReplyDeleteThat is a good idea, to ask a local HS if they are interested in ARCs. I think I might do that. I just asked my library and they told me they can't use the ARCs on their sheleves so they would sell them. :/
ReplyDeleteMy Networking Post
Yahhh I don't want the ARCs going to a library sale, even though it's for a good cause. The only way I would donate them there is if the teen librarian used them for summer reading giveaways or something.
DeleteThat's cool that you have met up with other bloggers. I'm not aware of any that live close to me. You need to come out to California! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I totally do! Haha, I would love to. If I ever do I will let you know =b
DeleteI would love to meet up with other bloggers - there's nothing like meeting with ab unch of like-minded people!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a blogging friend who lived close to me ... I'd love to trade books and swag!
ReplyDeleteI've donated books to my local library and I help out at one of the school's libraries, shelving books and doing whatever small chores they need done. It's fun!
You're lucky you live in a city where there is so much going on!
I feel like there's nothing much going on here, actually.... lol. I've definitely travelled for most of the stuff, though I'm lucky to have Kelley Armstrong as a local author and to meet a few people with a local connection.
DeleteThat sounds like a pretty awesome group. I guess maybe I need to start something.
ReplyDeleteWow! You have been to a lot of events. I could probably be that involved too but I have many hobbies that I want to spend time on. Do you have other hobbies that you pursue?
ReplyDeleteConnecting with local teachers is a GREAT thing to do! As a future teacher myself, I know the importance of lots of variety in the classroom. They would be so grateful.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it nice to have someone nearby? I just love that!
That's so awesome that you have other bloggers so close to you! :D I wish more of my fellow Canadian bloggers were closer to me, but alas most are not. *sigh* Oh, well. Eventually I'll probably end up moving anyway and maybe then I'll be close to lots of other bloggers. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree that partnering or doing anything with a local school would be awesome. :) I'd like to do that one day, too. :) And it is really great reading everyone's posts and comments and getting great ideas. I love it! :D
Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my Networking post, Ashley! :)
Ambur
I really wanted to go to WOTS last year and the year before, but haven't been able to attend. And this year it falls the weekend before my wedding, so not sure if I will be going yet again. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteBut I am hoping to go to this year's Ontario Blogger Meetup. :) *crossing fingers*
Man, bad timing! Of course a wedding is a pretty good reason ;)
DeleteAwesome, hope to see you there!
Those events sound awesome! Especially the blogger one.
ReplyDeleteSchools usually LOVE the ARCs or any extra books. I always donate a lot mine to them or local libraries.
Sounds like you have a great start!
