Synopsis: (from Goodreads)
Isadora’s family is seriously screwed up.

Of course, as the human daughter of Egyptian gods, that pretty much comes with the territory. She’s also stuck with parents who barely notice her, and a house full of relatives who can’t be bothered to remember her name. After all, they are going to be around forever—and she’s a mere mortal.

Isadora’s sick of living a life where she’s only worthy of a passing glance, and when she has the chance to move to San Diego with her brother, she jumps on it. But Isadora’s quickly finding that a “normal” life comes with plenty of its own epic complications—and that there’s no such thing as a clean break when it comes to family. Much as she wants to leave her past behind, she can’t shake the ominous dreams that foretell destruction for her entire family. When it turns out there may be truth in her nightmares, Isadora has to decide whether she can abandon her divine heritage after all.
My Thoughts:
I generally love Kiersten White’s writing, and this book was no exception. Smart, sweet, and funny, ‘The Chaos of Stars’ is compulsively readable.

Isadora is a great main character. She’s funny and smart, she has a sadness about her, yet she still brims with life. I love my main characters with a wee bit of snark, and Isadora definitely had that. She was an outspoken character without coming across as too brash, which I loved. Isadora doesn’t understand her parents (they are Egyptian gods, after all), and she has a fear of transience, which I could empathize with.

As for other characters, Ry is total book boyfriend material. He was all kinds of adorable! Isadora’s new friend Tyler (a girl, despite the name) and Tyler’s boyfriend, Scott, round out the group perfectly, as substantial secondary characters. Then there are the Egyptian gods who are just as interesting and grandiose as you would expect.

‘The Chaos of Stars’ is a story about embracing life and looking at things from a different perspective. It’s about celebrating what you have, but also going out and blazing new trails for the things you want. Kiersten White has such a charming and quirky sense of humour, and it shines here in this clever and enjoyable book.

The Cover:
Gorgeoussssss, I love it!

Rating:
[4/5]

  1. Yay good review! We've been seeing mixed stuff (not all that unusual for Kiersten's work, really) but after loving MIND GAMES, we've got high hopes for this one. And really, that cover? Who could resist?

  4. The cover of this book is phenomenal! Absolutely gorgeous! I have never read anything by White myself (I know shame on me). But after your review of this one, I am more intrigued than I was before. I love snarky girls and well formed secondary characters. This books sounds like it has it all. And another goes onto my TBR.
