Synopsis: (from Goodreads)

Three knocks can change everything…

"She knew. That’s why Mom hadn’t opened the door. She knew he was dead."

Twenty years as an army brat and Ember Howard knew, too. The soldiers at the door meant her dad was never coming home. What she didn’t know was how she would find the strength to singlehandedly care for her crumbling family when her mom falls apart.

Then Josh Walker enters her life. Hockey star, her new next-door neighbor, and not to mention the most delicious hands that insist on saving her over and over again. He has a way of erasing the pain with a single look, a single touch. As much as she wants to turn off her feelings and endure the heartache on her own, she can’t deny their intense attraction.

Until Josh’s secret shatters their world. And Ember must decide if he’s worth the risk that comes with loving a man who could strip her bare.
My Thoughts:
Full Measures is an incredibly well written book, featuring characters with depth. Rebecca Yarros has written a book which brings about stomach churning emotions in the reader, ones you can feel deep down. It’s easy to tell that the author knows all about military life, just with the little details presented and the whole feel of the book.

As a side note, I'm actually completely in awe that Rebecca could (or would) write about the grief of losing a father and husband. Dipping into the grieving emotions of that situation could not have been easy for someone who has a husband in service, so major props to her. Not only did she tackle those emotions, but she made them feel incredibly realistic. The characters felt like real people suffering a loss, partially because those emotions were so real. I could really feel the grief, the anger, and the sadness.

Full Measures isn't an easy book to read, because of the sadness, but there are definitely some lighter moments too. There’s some levity and sweetness to the book that make it even more worth reading. On the romance end of things, Josh and Ember are lovely together. I adored how real he was with her, and how she opened up for him in return. Plus, Josh is a hockey boy, which makes him even more fabulous.

If you’re looking for a New Adult book that captures the whole life of a character, rather than focusing only on the romance, then I highly recommend you check this one out. Full Measures encapsulates everything I like about, and want from, the New Adult category. There was a lot of family involvement in Ember's life (especially as they were dealing with the loss of her dad), there was romance, and there was Ember finding herself, making decisions about her future. Full Measures is a truly lovely book, one that I recommend to all fans of NA.
