I really loved Linda Kage's newest YA release, 'The Color of Grace', so I'm very excited to host this fun guest post and giveaway as part of the blog tour.
-- ABOUT THE BOOK --
Meet sixteen-year-old Grace Indigo:
Hey. When my mother remarried after thirteen years of being a widow, I had to move to a new town and enroll in a new school. Suddenly thrust into an entirely different kind of life, I just wanted to go home. I didn’t want to meet new people, didn’t want to leave my old friends, didn’t want to become a third wheel to my mom and her husband...and I really didn’t want to see Ryder Yates again. Ugh, I still don’t know why I turned down that too-good-to-be-true boy who flirted with me when we were attending separate schools.
But honestly, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It was worse.
Who knew becoming lost in a new life could help a girl find her true colors?
-- ABOUT THE AUTHOR --
Linda grew up on a dairy farm in the Midwest as the youngest of eight children. Now she lives in Kansas with her husband, toddler daughter, and their nine cuckoo clocks. She works a day job in the acquisitions department of a university library and feels her life has been blessed with lots of people to learn from and love. Writing's always been a major part of her world, and she's thrilled to finally share some of her stories with other romance lovers.
WHAT COLOR ARE YOU?
EXCERPT from The Color of Grace
“What color am I?” I asked.
There was a long pause before Adam said, “Um…Caucasian?”
“A very pale Caucasian,” Schy added. “In fact, you could use a good tan.”
I rolled my eyes. “Not the color of my skin. What color is my…my soul?”
Another long drawn out space of silence followed. Then Bridget hesitantly asked, “Why do you ask?”
“I have to write a paper for literature class.”
“You’re thinking this hard over a school paper?” Adam blurted out, sounding disgusted.
Schy groaned. “Good Lord, Gracie. I can’t believe this. You moved to Southeast only to turn into Bridget?”
“Oh, honey,” Bridget cheered. “Welcome to the dark side. Isn’t philosophizing everything addictive?”
I winced. Did I really sound like Bridget when she fell into thinker-mode? “Okay, maybe I worded that wrong. I meant my personality. What color of a person am I?”
***
In The Color of Grace, my main character (Grace) is given an assignment at her new school by her English teacher to write a paper about what color she would symbolize because color in literature usually symbolizes…well, something. So, as Grace goes through each experience in the story, she tries to decide which color she would be.
So now I gotta know, what color do you think you would symbolize? And you can’t just say “I choose pink because I’m a girl and my hot pink tongue ring totally rocks.” (quote in the book!). Give us a glimpse of your personality from the color.
Here are what some colors symbolize:
RED: Excitement, energy, passion, love, desire, speed, strength, power, heat, aggression, danger, fire, blood, war, violence, all things intense and passionate.
ORANGE: Energy, balance, enthusiasm, warmth, vibrant, expansive, flamboyant, demanding of attention. (This is Ryder’s color!)
YELLOW: Joy, happiness, betrayal, optimism, idealism, imagination, hope, sunshine, summer, gold, philosophy, dishonesty, cowardice, jealousy, covetousness, deceit, illness, hazard and friendship.
GREEN: Nature, environment, healthy, good luck, renewal, youth, spring, generosity, fertility, jealousy, inexperience, envy, misfortune, vigor.
BLUE: Peace, tranquility, cold, calm, stability, harmony, unity, trust, truth, confidence, conservatism, security, cleanliness, order, loyalty, sky, water, technology, depression, appetite suppressant.
INDIGO: trust, truthfulness, and stability, intuition, wisdom, mysticism.
PURPLE: Royalty, nobility, spirituality, ceremony, mysterious, transformation, wisdom, enlightenment, cruelty, arrogance, mourning.
PINK: love and romance, caring, tenderness, acceptance and calm.
BROWN: Earth, stability, hearth, home, outdoors, reliability, comfort, endurance, simplicity, and comfort.
BLACK: Power, sophistication, formality, elegance, wealth, mystery, fear, evil, unhappiness, depth, style, evil, sadness, remorse, anger, anonymity, underground, good technical color, mourning, death (Western cultures).
GRAY: Security, reliability, intelligence, staid, modesty, dignity, maturity, solid, conservative, practical, old age, sadness, boring. Silver symbolizes calm.
WHITE: Reverence, purity, birth, simplicity, cleanliness, peace, humility, precision, innocence, youth, winter, snow, good, sterility, marriage (Western cultures), death (Eastern cultures), cold, clinical.
If you’re still clueless what color you might be, you can take this little quiz to help you figure it out.
http://www.quizmeme.com/color/quiz.php
After I took the quiz, I came out green, which means I should be “a very calm and contemplative person. Others are drawn to [my] peaceful, nurturing nature.” Not sure if I buy that. I can be calm and contemplative, sure, but I don’t know so much about a nurturing nature; my kid usually has hot dogs for supper!! That’s what my test results said I am, though!!
Tell your color and you will be entered to win an e-book copy of The Color of Grace.
From the colour quiz I got blue, which was all about love, friendship, spirituality, and loyalty. I agree with that, but I also think I'm a bit grey as well. I relate to the 'old soul' type of description that colour gets, with the reliability and practical nature it's described as.
I'm intrigued to know what colour(s) you guys think you are!

A blueish gray is a lovely shade, Ashley! And it goes well with your blog too!!! Thanks so much for hosting me me here. I'm so glad you liked The Color of Grace!
ReplyDeleteOoh... love the blog connection. Maybe our fave colours say more about us than you would think.
DeleteSo glad to be hosting you since I did like the book so much! ;)
Surprizingly I am a yellow. Great interview.
ReplyDeleteMy mother's favorite color is yellow. I always think of her when I see it. And it makes me smile!
DeleteHow fun! I didn't do the quiz, but from the descriptions, i think gray fits me the best!
ReplyDeleteI always thought gray was such a sad color until I did the research for this book. Now I have total respect for it!
DeleteIt's true, gray does seem depressing until you look into the meaning and then it becomes more distinguished I think.
DeleteThis was fun. I'm blue, which also happens to be my favourite colour to wear, so that works for me!
ReplyDeleteBlue it is then! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI wear a lot of blue tones as well. I wonder if we're drawn to the colours that actually do represent us?
DeleteA fun quiz, but I agreed with Grace's teacher that people are complicated and full of colors. Life isn't black and white and neither are people.
ReplyDeleteMy result (like Ashley's) was Blue: You give your love and friendship unconditionally. You enjoy long, thoughtful conversations rich in philosophy and spirituality. You are very loyal and intuitive.
But I feel like I'm also brown, white, and a touch of orange. :)
Ana @ BookSpark
Yeah, I don't see how anyone can always be just one color, but it sure was fun to play and see what the test said.
DeleteDefinitely! I don't think you can pin yourself down EXACTLY to one colour, just like any other quiz result. =)
DeleteI got green but I think I'd be a more green-blue because of the tech and harmony/balance (that's the Libra in me!) Very cool!
ReplyDeleteooh! Fellow Libra. Rock on! Green blue is a good color to be!
DeleteThanks! Looks like the blues are definitely drawn to your blog, Ashley!
ReplyDeleteIt does seem like it! I wonder if that is the most common in general, or if it has something to do with the audience of book blogs.
