1. Sorry about the lighting/glare -- I tried from several angles and that was actually the best.
2. After watching this back I realized I didn't really need to mention where I'm from. I'm pretty sure the massive amounts of hockey paraphernalia in the background speaks for itself (yes, I'm totally aware the Leafs suck, haha, but I'm pretty sure my Dad would've disowned me if I cheered for any other team -- and I'm only partially kidding ;)).
3. Apparently I lisp weirdly while reading out loud (?).
4. Do I have an accent?? Watching this back I think I actually do sound different than the typical American accent, but I'm not sure. I'm so curious what you think.

This is too funny--I love it! Really, to me, most Canadians sound like people from the Midwestern US (our accents vary, too, from Chicago to Minnesota to Michigan to Ohio...) and that's what you sound like to me, except for a few words (about, esp.).
ReplyDeleteGo BLACKHAWKS! (heehee)
Happy Reading!

Yeah, I saw that remark on Veronica Roth's blog and was really confused too! I was all, "We don't pronounce 'out' like 'boat'...someone is teaching her incorrect Canadian pronunciation!" LOL. Your accent sounds a fair bit like mine, except for a few words (we pronounce caramel totally differently, I pronounce it like kerr-a-mel. Although that phonetic spelling is probably completely off.) And yes, it's pop! :D Interesting that you sometimes call it a buggy - I don't think we ever do that here...always just a cart/shopping cart.
ReplyDeleteAnyway I always like hearing people's accents so I enjoyed the vlog! (And nice to see you "in person" too :))
YAY for first vlogs- that was fab. I hadn't heard of an accent vlog before....we sound pretty similar :)
ReplyDeleteI think you sound normal to me! but then again....I know you :) One of my friends, who is british, said that Canadians sound very high pitched to them, and that we sort of slur our words together very fast.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, GO LEAFS!
ReplyDeleteSecondly, I'm a Canadian too and I was really confused when Veronica commented on our "accents." I had an Aussie blogger friend ask me if I had an accent and I was just stumped. I don't really hear it when I talk. You and I pronounce some of the words in the list differently though. Like Danya, I pronounce caramel as kerr-a-mel. I think the type of shows that we watch affect how we pronounce words.
Great first vlog!
