My Thoughts:
Dead best friend? Check. Socially ostracized from former friends? Check. Adorable platonic boy sidekick? Check. Swoonworthy misunderstood “bad boy” love interest? Check.
If you couldn’t tell, I’m comparing ‘The Liar Society’ to the most awesome TV show that barely anyone watched: Veronica Mars. Now this is not to say that ‘The Liar Society’ is a carbon copy of Veronica Mars, because it definitely isn’t. It has plenty of its own originality and quirks, but it was the comparison of ‘The Liar Society’ to VM that first drew me into the story.
If you enjoy intense cloak and dagger murder mysteries that also involve a more lighthearted aspect, with banter and humour interspersed amongst it pages then you definitely want to pick this one up. I loved how funny and amusing this story was, even while Kate was dealing with the pain of losing a best friend and trying to figure out what horrific acts had occurred.
This book has something for everyone, I swear. There’s friendship (and former friendships), bits of romance, mystery, humour... etc. Most of all, this book is so well written. I especially appreciated how well blended the writing was: you definitely could not tell that it was written by two people. Finally, ‘The Liar Society’ is my favourite type of series book: one where the main plot of the book is wrapped up, leaving enough overarching conclusions left open so that you want to read the next book, but not too much that you’re cursing the authors and begging them to write faster. Bottom line? You definitely do not want to miss this one. So interesting, so funny, and so, so good.

Not only do you have me wanting to read the book, but you also have me adding Veronica Mars to my Netflix queue - which is already too long. :)

ReplyDeleteWhen I couldn't find The Liar Society in stores, I made a point of ordering it from Chapters but then term tests and such came up and I couldn't read it! I'm so glad to see that you loved this novel and how it had a bit of everything! I really need to get to this one soon! :)
