Synopsis: (from Goodreads)
Beatrice "Tris" Prior has reached the fateful age of sixteen, the stage at which teenagers in Veronica Roth's dystopian Chicago must select which of five factions to join for life. Each faction represents a virtue: Candor, Abnegation, Dauntless, Amity, and Erudite. To the surprise of herself and her selfless Abnegation family, she chooses Dauntless, the path of courage. Her choice exposes her to the demanding, violent initiation rites of this group, but it also threatens to expose a personal secret that could place in mortal danger. Veronica Roth's young adult Divergent trilogy launches with a captivating adventure about love and loyalty playing out under most extreme circumstances.

My Thoughts:
I've been a big fan of this book ever since it released, but I never posted my review here because of the huge amounts of reviews that were flooding in during May and June. But now I figured it was about time for me to squee about 'Divergent':

When I finished this book I literally said “Holy crap.” It was just so GOOD. What the book contains isn’t necessarily all unique, but it sure is amazingly executed. Veronica Roth’s writing is so powerful. It’s a pretty simple story, but with enough descriptions to keep things interesting.

I love the different factions and how they’re divided by personality. I love how action-packed the book is: all the Dauntless training exercises were incredibly interesting.

The main character of this book, Tris, is fabulous. She is so brave and selfless. She is strong because of her ability to be brave. Four is such a lovely character as well. His “mystery” background was pretty easy to figure out, but it was still interesting to see it play out. Plus his nickname becomes way less lame once you figure out what it stands for.

This book has scenes that will keep you on the edge of your seat, a slow-building romance, friendship, and cruelty. There is so much of everything, yet never enough. ‘Divergent’ is a decent length, but it will keep you reading and reading and wanting more. Definitely one of the best books I’ve read this year!

Love it!

  2. Yay, I'm glad you finally shared your review for this one! I never posted my review for it either, because I read Divergent before I started blogging. Sometimes it's nice to wait a little bit before posting a new review fo ra book getting so much buzz!

I'm a HUGE fan of the factions in Divergent. I like neat personality groups like that, and to be honest the first thing I did after reading it was go online and take a faction quiz to see which one I belonged in lol!

Thanks for sharing your review, Ashley :)

  4. Yay! I'm glad to hear your gushing thoughts on Divergent! Isn't it one of those books where you have such difficulty to give the book justice in only words? I know it was like that for me! I can't wait for Insurgent! :)

  5. YES, YES, and YES again! And I can't wait for INSURGENT! This was soo different, so well written and set in one of my favorite towns. Loved the factions and divisions in the society. And Tris and Four? Rocked! Great review.

  6. Just ... Yes. To everything you said. I freaking loved this book, and it rocked my world. In fact, I'd forgotten my adoration of it until you just reminded me.

And I think waiting to post this review was a good idea. The blogosphere was saturated with reviews when it came out. Now is a good time to remind people of it.

  8. Everyone seems to rave about this one. It's hard to go wrong with a strong main character. It's a personality type that doesn't get old. I don't mind if the characters are too "mysterious" as long as they're drawn well.
    Can't wait to read this!

  10. I really enjoyed reading this one as well. It's funny because at times I really didn't like Tris. Four really saved this book for me and also the fact that there wasn't a love triangle ;)

  13. Awesome review. I'm squealing right now, because I just started this today and was sucked in from the very first paragraph. There rarely (if ever) happens. I can just feel that it's going to be great, and I can't wait to finish it and experience the things you described. :)

  14. I still need to read this. I've heard great things and it sounds amazing, but I still haven't been able to read it yet. T_T I think I'll try and definitely read it next year if I don't get to it this year. Maybe I'll put it on my A to Z challenge list. =D

Thanks for the great review. I'm glad you loved it. =) I honestly don't think I can recall seeing any bad reviews on this. o.o

  16. I loved this book as well. For me there were some slow points in the middle, but I like how you said that there was enough detail to keep things interesting. I think that's a very true observation. While Roth's story may not have been the most original thing out in regards to distopian fiction, I thought her presentation made the book impossible to put down!
