Synopsis: (from Goodreads)
Nara Collins is an average sixteen-year-old, with one exception: every night she dreams the events of the following day. Due to an incident in her past, Nara avoids using her special gift to change fate…until she dreams a future she can’t ignore.

After Nara prevents a bombing at Blue Ridge High, her ability to see the future starts to fade, while people at school are suddenly being injured at an unusually high rate.

Grappling with her diminishing powers and the need to prevent another disaster, Nara meets Ethan Harris, a mysterious loner who seems to understand her better than anyone. Ethan and Nara forge an irresistible connection, but as their relationship heats up, so do her questions about his dark past.

My Thoughts:
I absolutely love the whole idea behind ‘Brightest Kind of Darkness’, which is that Inara (or Nara as she’s known to most people) dreams about her day before it happens. I can’t imagine what it would be like to have this happen, but for Nara it’s been going on for years. Then when Nara prevents a bombing at her school things start going very wrong: her dreams go missing and something strange starts happening at school.

P.T. Michelle has written an extremely fascinating book that will keep you reading and wondering. The plot itself isn’t particularly unique, but I’m not sure it’s possible to write a book that’s never been written before in one form or another. What’s important for me is that the author makes you want to read on and gets you to care about their characters, and in this regard Michelle absolutely succeeds.

Nara and Ethan are both interesting, layered characters. While their relationship occurs based on a paranormal connection, I was happy to see them spending time together and getting to know each other before declaring love and devotion, unlike in a lot of other books. Overall I was impressed with this book, and I would definitely read on in the series. I thought the ending was a little bit rushed, but I was at least happy there was a concrete ending to it. I was worried it was going to be a total cliffhanger, but thankfully it wasn’t. Pick this one up if you’re looking for a well written paranormal romance with a very interesting Final Destination-like twist to it.

The Cover:
Very pretty, I like it.

  1. It's nice to see that self-published authors write books that readers like as much as books published by huge publishing companies. In the end it's just about the talent and story constuction. Thanks for your review!

  3. Sarah -- absolutely! One of my favourites from this year is self-published. I think it's just about the specific writer and their talent. It's just tougher to wade through self-published material to find those gems, unfortunately.

    P.T. -- Not a problem at all! =)

  5. Interesting premise! I like that, instead of gaining powers, she's losing something that's been with her forever, just at the time she needs it most. Great review!

  6. This sounds like an interesting book, and I'm glad you liked it so well. I like that it's different from other 'paranormal' type books I've seen lately!

Thanks for sharing this book, as I hadn't heard of it before.
