Synopsis: (from Goodreads)
While other high school seniors are dreaming about their futures, Sophie and Carter are just trying to make it through each day. Carter is overwhelmed by issues at home as he struggles to support his mother. Meanwhile, next door neighbor Sophie is left to care for her three younger siblings in place of their absent and troubled mother. All that holds these two best friends together is each other, and knowing that each night they'll sit together on Sophie's front porch swing and escape from reality, if just for awhile. But as their relationship reaches a turning point and high school graduation nears, will their friendship become something more?

My Thoughts:
What I Liked:
- The emotional aspect: I really felt for both the characters and what they were going through, probably because we get to experience both their POVs.
- The connection between the characters: their relationship is so real. Their connection is beautiful and perfect, and I loved the moments the two of them had together.

What I Disliked:
- The length of the book means that the story didn’t get to be well developed. I would have liked more plot.
- The ending was a bit rushed and a bit typical. Still fairly satisfying, but still.

Conclusion:
A book that is well worth reading if you’d like a quick escape. It features likable, sympathetic characters and a sweet romance that arises as Sophie & Carter deal with the difficulties in their lives.

The Cover:
I definitely like its simplicity, and how the red bar at the bottom ties in with the red of the ampersand.

Rating:
[3/5]

  1. I remember seeing this a couple of weeks back, I thought it looked cute.

Too bad the story wasn't more developed, but it seems like an okay read.

    Thanks for the review.

  2. I like what you said in your review. I tend to like short books more than other readers but sometimes more is better. I'd love to read it and find out. Thanks for the review/giveaway!

  3. Wow. That's a pretty short book -- hard to truly delve into the characters and plot in that amount of space. Still, it sounds cute and I'm sure the more reluctant readers would be more willing to pick it up because of its length.

  4. I like the image of the two sitting on a porch swing shutting out the world :)

  5. The length of the book verifies your dislikes, it's hard to pack a punch with a book and tell the whole story in that page length :) Thanks for your thoughts! And I do still want to read it because I want to read about this connection they have!

  6. This seems like it will be a good, quick read. I hope I will still like it even if it is underdeveloped.
